The School: Wasatch Academy is a rural preparatory school for college-bound students who are committed to developing the skills, knowledge, habits, and self-discipline necessary for success.

History: Founded in 1875, Wasatch Academy operated as a Presbyterian school until 1972. It is independent of the church today, but retains a commitment to spiritual and moral growth, which includes weekly nonsectarian chapel meetings and courses in religion, ethics, and philosophy. Governed by a 16-member Board of Trustees composed of parents, alumni, and professional leaders from across the country, the Academy is a registered, not-for-profit organization

Location: Located 95 miles from Salt Lake City, site of the 2002 Winter Olympics, the campus is a National Historic Site on the western slope of the Wasatch Mountains in the ranching community of Mt. Pleasant, Utah (population 3,000; elevation 6,000 feet). Wasatch is one hour from the University town of Provo, two hours from seven internationally known ski areas, and within an afternoon's drive of six national parks.

Memberships: Council for Spiritual and Ethical Education, National Association of Independent Schools, Association of Boarding Schools, Western Boarding Schools Association, Secondary School Admission Test Board, Council for Advancement and Support of Education, RMACAC and NACAC.

Honors courses: Algebra, Chemistry, English, Physics, Pre-Calculus, US History, and Western Civilizations

Calculation of Grade Point Average: Wasatch Academy calculates grade point averages on a 4.0 System. The school does not use a “weighted” grade point average. All subjects, except study halls, are included in the grade point average. Plus (+) and minus (-) grades are calculated into the GPA. Honors and AP courses are not given additional grade points. The GPA scale can be found on the back of the transcript.

Class Rank: Due to a selective admissions process and diverse student body, Wasatch’s population is not typical; therefore Wasatch Academy does not calculate class rank.

Special Programs:
Schools Attuned: This unique program evaluates strengths and weaknesses of individual students and provides specific strategies to help students redirect their strengths to bear upon their weaknesses.
Learning Support: For students who need more help developing these strategies and skills, the school offers Learning Support courses.
Honors Program: Exceptional students may follow an honors curriculum and earn an honors diploma. ESL Program: Wasatch also offers three levels of ESL: beginning, intermediate, and advanced.

The average class size is 13. Evening study hall in the dorms is required. In addition, structured, faculty-monitored study is offered in classrooms for students who require extra assistance.
