Debate Team Travels to Canada
Wasatch Academy sent three remarkable students to Toronto
Canada this month to participate in a truly world-class
speech and debate event. The International Independent
Schools Public Speaking Competition is the largest public
speaking and debate tournament of its kind in the world
today; the IISPSC brings together approximately 200 of the
very best students from over a dozen countries to test their
skills at the highest levels of competition. Some 50 of the
leading independent schools are represented at this annual
tournament, with teams from countries as far-flung as the
England, Bermuda, Australia, Canada, Scotland and Cyprus. As
in previous years, Wasatch Academy was the only American
team from outside New England to compete at this most
prestigious tournament.
Wasatch Academy was represented at this world-class event by
a team that was as diverse as the Internationals itself:
Tana (co-captain) comes from Mongolia, Seung Han
(co-captain) from Korea, while John hails from Taiwan. The
Wasatch team has very ambitious career plans in keeping with
their extraordinary communication and critical thinking
skills: Tana is applying Early Decision this week to Yale
University, where she intends to study Economics and
International Finanace, Seung Han is applying Early Decision
to Columbia where he wishes to pursue studies in
Engineering, while John is applying to leading programs in
Mathematics, as those at the Universities of Toronto and
Waterloo. In the annual qualifying competition, Tana has
proceeded to the American national team to represent the USA
at the World Debating and Public Speaking Championships
which will be held at the Bishop's College in South Africa
in March 2007. Wasatch Academy is proud to be represented by
this remarkable team of speakers.
