Big Things Happening for Dance!
Big things are happening! Dance at Wasatch
has had a wonderful first quarter with dancers who have been
dancing for years and some that have only just begun. The
beginning jazz technique class has progressed tremendously,
having never danced before to performing for peers and parents
in the school auditorium over Parents Weekend in October. The
intermediate ballet/jazz class dancers are working on getting
stronger with the discipline of ballet technique and jazz
progressions across the floor. We have also had auditions for
the WAtchout! Dance Company where seven company members, Maddie,
Hilary, Cheri, Whitney, Genie, Shyann and John were chosen. We
have already begun work on one of the two pieces they will
perform at competitions this year. Our first
convention/competition is Urban Jamm, December 1st
and 2nd. It will be two days of dance packed classes
including jazz and hip hop up in Salt Lake City. The classes
will be taught by teachers from Los Angeles. Three of our
dancers Genie, Hilary and Maddie went to Orem (1 hour north of
Wasatch) to Centerstage Performing Arts Center to take a
contemporary jazz class taught by master teacher Justin Giles.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to be challenged in
a studio class with other dancers in Utah and experience a new
style.
Wasatch students will have the opportunity
to see their dance teacher and company director, Brittany
Maxwell, perform with Origins Dance Company at the Scera Theater
in Provo Utah this coming January 2007.
