Tiger Baseball Team Qualifies for State Playoffs

Second baseman Soichi Nishimoto and pitcher Austin Meier

When the 2007 version of the Wasatch Academy baseball team arrived on campus in early August, there were many new faces, and it was clear that reaching the state semifinals, as the team had done the previous two years, was going to require extra effort. However, new coach Rick Ryan took those new faces, some of them virtual beginners, and has molded them into the region powerhouses that Wasatch Academy has become accustomed to. After some tough losses early in the season, the Tigers have won five of their last six games and have assured themselves of a spot in the 1A state playoffs for the fourth straight year. A third consecutive region title is also still a possibility. The leadership of seniors Austin Meier, Yusuke Osakabe, and Zach Galbraith, and of junior Logan Hansen, has been a big reason for the team's success. This leadership, and the improvement of young players such as sophomore Lucas Haroldson and freshman Chad Crosby, "are why we are where we are," says Coach Ryan, who continues, "I'm really proud of this team." All of Wasatch Academy echoes his sentiments!
