Speech and Debate is alive and thriving at Wasatch Academy! Each year students at Wasatch train daily in public speaking to compete at the highest levels on the international circuit. Back in October, Wasatch students co-captains Seung Han '07 (Seoul, Korea) and Tana '07 (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia), as well as John '07 (Tainan, Taiwan) performed brilliantly at the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition, a prestigious tournament bringing together the top 200 students from around the world, held this year at St Andrew's College up in Aurora, Ontario, Canada. At the Wasatch World Championship Qualifier for the Western United States, Tana emerged as top speaker overall but then ceded her place to the designated alternate Alex '08 (Palo Alto, California) who will compete at the 2007 World Championship, which is being held over Spring Break at the Bishops School in South Africa. The Wasatch Speech and Debate team has demonstrated remarkable qualities throughout the year; their teamwork is second to none and their individual rhetorical efforts are sterling. We are all very proud of Alex as he sets off to compete at the 2007 Worlds, knowing that he will serve as an impeccable delegate to the US team, representing both his school and his country at the highest levels of competition on the world stage.
