This year Wasatch Academy adopted an English Pledge for its international students. This pledge is intended to help our international students attain a higher level of English during their time at Wasatch Academy.

Wasatch Academy English Pledge

In the spirit of taking full advantage of my opportunities to develop my English language skills while attending Wasatch Academy, I, _______________________________, understand the expectation to speak English at Wasatch Academy during the 2007-2008 academic year. When using my computer, I realize I am expected to use English websites. I understand I am expected to communicate with my friends at Wasatch in English. I also understand I am expected to encourage all international students to speak and communicate in English. In addition, I understand I am expected to have native-English-speaking friends.

I acknowledge the exceptions to this pledge are limited to: teacher permission in specific circumstances, foreign language classes, and communication with family members and friends overseas.

I also realize there are rewards for fulfilling this pledge. By fulfilling this pledge, I realize it will help me become a more fluent speaker. I understand I may also earn trips during the academic year to restaurants, cultural events and other fun activities.

I realize there are consequences of not following the pledge. These may include but are not limited to: a drop in my citizenship grade, e-mails sent to my parents and infractions.

I recognize the importance of speaking English and understand all rights and responsibilities of this pledge.
